It is easier to serve or work for God without a vision and without a call, because then you are not bothered by what he requires.

Common sense, covered with a layer of Christian emotion, becomes your guide. You may be more prosperous and sucessful from the world's perspective, and will have more leisure time, if you never acknowledge the call of God.

But

once you receive a commission from Jesus Christ, the memory of what God asks of you will always be there to prod you on to do His will.

You will no longer be able to work for Him on the basis of common sense.

 

What do I count in my life as

"dear to myself"?

 

If I have not been seized by Jesus Chrsit and have not surrendered myself to Him, I will consider the the time I decide to give God and my owm ideas of service as dear. I will also consider my own life as "dear to myself."

But Paul said he considered his life dear so that he might fulfill the ministry he had received, and he refused to use his energy on anything else.

 

This verse shows an almost noble annoyance by Paul at being asked to consider himself. He was absolutely indifferent to any consideration other than that of fulfilling the ministry he had received. Our reasonable work is based on the following argument which we say to ourselves, "Remember how useful you are here, and think how much value you would be in that particular type of work." That attitude choose our own judgement, instead of Jesus Chrsit, to be our guide as to as to where we should go and where we could be used the most. 

Never consider

whether or not you are of use -

 

but always consider that

 

"you are not your own" (1 Corinthians 6:19).

You are His.

 

 

소명이나 비젼없이 하나님의 일을 하는 것은 쉽다. 하나님의 요구에 번거롭지 않기 때문이다. 기독교적인 상식선에서 봉사나 한다는 감상에 젖어 일하면 되는 것이다.

하나님의 부르심을 깨닫지 못할 때 오히려 더 번창하고 성공할 수 있고 여유있게 일할 수 있다.

하지만

당신이 예수 그리스도로부터 위임을 받으면, 하나님께서 당신에게 요구하는 것에 대한 기억이 항상 당신이 예수님의 뜻을 이루도록 격려하기 위해 거기에 있을 것입니다.

 

내가 나의 인생에서

'귀하게 여기는 것'

은

무엇인가?

 

예수 그리스도께 온전히 사로잡혀 있지 않고 모든 것을 다 내어드리지 않은 사람에게 귀한 것은 시간, 봉사 일 것이다. 그러나 바울은 오로지 받은 사명을 이루기 위해서만 삶을 귀하게 여길 뿐 다른 무엇에도 그의 역량을 사용하기를 거부했다.

사도행전 20장 24절에서 바울은 자신을 돌보라는 권고를 받고 심한 고민에 빠진다.

그는 주님에게 받은 사명 완수 외에는 관심 있는 것이 없었다. 실제적 합리는 하나님께 몰입하려는 일을 막는 장애가 될 수 있다.

합리성과 실용성을 좇아 일하려는 사람에게는 이런 생각이 내재되어 있다.

'이곳에서 내가 얼마나 유용한 존재인지 잊으면 안돼. 특히 이런 일에는 내가 얼마나 귀중하게 쓰이는 잘 알아야 해'. 이런 태도는 예수 그리스도를 제쳐 두고 어디로 가야하는지 스스로 판단하려 하며, 내가 어디에 가장 유용한지 스스로 결정하려 한다.

 

당신이 유용한 존재인지 아닌지는

생각하지 말기 바란다.

 

"너희는 너희의 것이 아니라"

 

고 하신 말씀을 항상 명심하라.

 

당신은 주님의 것이다.
