Our Lord must be repeatedly astounded at us - astounded at how "un-simple" we are.

It is our own opinions that make us dense and slow to understand, but when we are simple we are never dense; we have discernment all the time. Philip expected the future revelation of a tremendous mystery, but not in Jesus, the Person he thought he already knew. The mystery of God is not in what is going to be-it is now, though we look for it to be revealed in the future in some overwhelming, momentous event. We have no reluctance to obey Jesus, but it is highly probable that we are hurting Him by what we ask - "Lord, show us the Father . . ."(John 14:8). His response immediately comes back to us as He says, "Can't you see Him? He is always right here or He is nowhere to be found." We look for God to exhibit Himself to His children, but God only exhibits Himself in His children. And while others see the evidence, the child of God does not. We want to be fully aware of what God is doing in us, but we cannot have complete awareness and expect to remain reasonable or balanced in our expectations of Him. If all we are asking God to give us is experiences, and the awareness of those experiences is blocking our way, we hurt the Lord. The very questions we ask hurt Jesus, because they are not the questions of a child.

 

"Let not your heart be troubled . . ."(14:1,27).

Am I then hurting Jesus by allowing my heart to be troubled?

If I believe in Jesus and His attributes, am I living up to my belief? Am I allowing anything to disturb my heart,

or

am I allowing any questions to come in

which are unsound or unbalanced?

I have to get to the point of the absolute and unquestionable relationship that takes everything exactly as it comes from Him. God never guides us at some time in the future,

but always here and now.

Realize that the Lord is here now,

and

the freedom you recieve is immediate.

주님은 우리가 단순하지 못하고 너무나 복잡한 것에 거듭 놀라실 것이다.

우리를 바보로 만드는 것은 여러 의견들이다.

단순하면 결코 우둔해지지 않고 오히려 분별력을 가진다.

 

빌립은 장차 올 거창한 신비의 계시를 기대하고 있었지만, 정작 자신이 이미 알고 있는, 계시의 장본인인 주님에 대해서는 아무것도 기대하지 않았다. 하나님의 신비는 장차 일어날 일속에 있지 않다. 우리는 굉장한 미래의 사건이 일어나 그 속에서 하나님의 신비가 이루어질 것을 기대하며 그것을 찾고 있지만, 그 신비는 지금 계시되고 있다. 우리는 기꺼이 예수님께 순종하지만 "주여, 우리에게 아버지를 보여 주옵소서"(요한복음 14장 8절)라고 쉽게 요구하며 예수님의 마음을 아프게 한다. 그러면 주님은 즉시 대답하신다. "네가 아버지를 보지 못하느냐? 아버지는 항상 여기 계시며 다른 곳에서는 만나지 못하느니라." 우리는 하나님이 그분의 자녀들에게 나타나시기를 기대하지만 하나님은 오직 자녀들 '안'에서만 나타나신다. 사람들은 증거를 눈으로 보지만 하나님의 자녀는 그렇지 않다. 우리는 하나님께 체험을 구하지만 그 체험들이 하나님께 가는 길을 방해한다면 주님께서 아파하신다. 이같이 우리의 질문은 예수님의 마음을 아프게 한다. 어린아이의 질문이 아니기 때문이다.

 

"너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라"(요한복음 14장 1절).

나의 근심이 주님의 마음을 아프게 하고 있지 않는가?

예수님이 어떤 분이신지 믿는다면 그 믿음에 따라 살아야 한다.

옳지 못한 질문으로 내 마음을 심란하게 하며

주님 마음을 아프게 하지 않는가?

하나님이 주시는 것이라면 무엇이든지

의심 없이 받는 관계가 되어야 한다.

하나님은 미래를 인도하시지 않고 지금 현재 우리를 인도하신다.

지금 여기에 주님이 계신다.

는 것을 깨닫는다면

당신은 자유로워질 것이다.
