Though it tarries, wait for it. . .

Ptience is not the same as indifference; patience conveys the idea of someone who is tremendously strong and able to withstand all assaults. Having the vision of God is the source of patience because it gives us God's true and proper inspiration. Moses endured, not because of his devotion to his principles of what was right, nor because of his sense of duty to God, but because he had a vision of God. " . . . he endured as seeing Him who is invisible" (Hebrews 11:27). 

A person who has the vision of God is not devoted to a cause or to any particular issue - he is devoted to God Himself. You always know when the vision is of God because of the inspiration that comes with it. Things come to you with greatness and add vitality to your life because everything is energized His time of temptation in the wilderness. When God does that, simply endure, and the power to endure will be there because you see God.

 

"Though it tarries, wait for it. . .." The proof that we have the vision is that we are reaching out for more than we have already grasped. It is a bad thing to be satisfied spiritually. The psalmist said, "What shall I render to the Lord . . .? I will take up the cup of salvation. . ." (Psalm 116:12-13). We are apt to look for satisfaction within ourselves and say, " Now I've got it! Now I am completely sanctified. Now I can endure. " instantly we are on the road to ruin. Our reach must exceed our grasp. Paul said, "Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected: but I press on . . ."(Philippians 3:12). If we have only what we have experienced, we have nothing. But if we have the inspiration of the vision of God, we have more than we can experience.

Beware of the danger of spiritual relaxation.

인내는 무관심이 아니다.

인내는 모든 공격을 견뎌내는 어마어마한 강한 바위를 연상시킨다. 하나님을 바라봄이 인내의 근원이다. 그 이유는 주를 볼 때 영적 순종의 영감을 얻기 때문이다. 모세는 인내하였다. 의무감이나 어떤 이상 때문이 아니라 하나님을 보았기 때문이다. 그는 "보이지 않는 분을 보는 것같이 하여" 참았다.(히 11:27)

하나님을 보는 사람은 어떤 명분이나 특별 관심사에 헌신하지 않는다. 오직 하나님께 헌신한다. 당신은 당신이 주님을 바라보는 때가 언제인지 잘 알고 있다. 그 이유는 주를 볼 때마다 영감을 얻기 때문이다. 모든 일은 하나님에 의하여 발생하기 때문에 우리 인생에 큰 의미와 도전을 준다. 하나님께서 예수님께 광야의 시험을 주신 것처럼 만일 우리에게도 영적 시험을 주시고 아무 말씀도 하지 않으시면 인내하자. 당신은 주님을 바라보기 때문에 인내의 능력이 있게 될 것이다.

 

"비록 더딜지라도 기다리라." 우리가 비전을 가지고 있다면 우리는 자신의 한계를 넘어서서 나아가게 된다. 영적으로 안일함에 빠지는 것은 잘못된 것이다. 시인은 "내가 주를 위하여 무엇이라고 말할까? . . . . 내가 더욱 구원의 잔을 마시리라"라고 말하였다.(시 116:12-13) 우리는 자신에게 만족을 찾길 원한다. "이제 다 되었군. 충분하군. 나는 지금 온전하게 거룩하여졌어. 나는 잘 인내할 수 있어." 그러나 영적 자만에 빠지는 순간 우리는 멸망의 길에 서게 된다. 우리의 비전은 우리의 한계를 초월해야 한다. "내가 이미 얻었다 함도 아니요 또한 온전함도 아니라."(빌 3:12) 체험한 것만 붙들고 있으면 우리는 아무것도 없는 것이다. 하나님을 바라봄으로 영감을 얻자. 우리는 지금까지 경험한 것이 상의 것을 얻어야 한다.

영적으로 느슨해지는 것을 주의하자.
