Our Lord replies to this statement of Peter by saying that this surrender is "for My sake and the gospel's (Mark 10:29). It was not for the purpose of what the disciples themselves would get out of it. Beware of surender that is motivated by personal benefits that may result. For example, "I'm going to give myself to God because I want to be delivered from sin, because I want to be made holy. "Being delivered from sin and being made holy are the result of being right with God, but surrender resulting from this kind of thinking is certainly not the true nature of Christianity. Our motive for surrender should not be for any personal gain at all. We have become so self centered that we go to God only for something from Him, and not for God Himself. It is like saying, "No, Lord, I don't want you;

I want my self. But I do want You to clean me and fill me with Your Holy Spirit.

I want to be on display in Your showcase so I can say, 'This is what God has done for me.' "Gaining heaven, being delivered from sin, and being made useful to God are things that should never even be a consideration in real surrender.

Genuine total surrender is

a personal sovereign preference for Jesus Christ Himself.

 

Where does Jesus Christ figure in when we have a concern about our natural relationships?

Most of us will desert Him with this excuse - "Yes. Lord, I heard you call me, but my family needs me and I have my own interests. I just can't go any further" (see Luke 9:57-62). "Then,"Jesus says, "you 'cannot be My disciple'"(see Luke 14:26-33).

 

True surrender will always go beyond natural devotion. If we will only give up, God will surrender Himself to embrace all those around us and will meet their needs, which were created by our surrender.Beware of stopping anywhere short of total surrender to God. Most of us have only a vision of what this really means, but have never truly experienced it.

베드로가 말했다

주님 우리가 모든 것을 버리고 주를 따랐나이다

마가복음 10:28

 

 

 

 

베드로의 말에 주님은 말씀하셨다. 포기란 구원과 복음을 위해서 하는 것이다. 포기의 목적이 제자들 자신의 목적을 위해서 하는 것이 아니다.

받을 이익을 위한 포기를 조심해야 한다.

예를 들어 "하나님께 나를 드리는 것은 죄에서 구원받고 거룩한 사람이 되고 싶기 때문입니다" 같은 고백이 그렇다.

하나님과의 바른 관계에 서면 그 결과로 우리는 죄에서 구원받고 거룩한 사람이 되지만, 이것을 바라는 마음에서 스스로를 버리는 것은 올바른 신앙이 아니다.

 

목적을 위해 자신을 버리는 것은 잘못이다. 우리는 계산적 사고에 익숙해서 하나님께 나아갈 때도 그분께 무엇을 얻어내려고 할 뿐, 주님 자체를 구하지 않는다.

'주님. 제가 원하는 것은 저 자신이지 주님이 아닙니다. 하지만 저를 깨끗하게 해 주시고 주님의 성령으로 가득 채워 주세요. 저는 주님의 자랑이 되고 싶습니다. 그리고 이것이야말로 하나님께서 제게 해 주신 일이라고 말하고 싶습니다."

 

참된 포기를 하려면

천국을 얻고 죄에서 구원되는 것,

하나님께 유용하게 쓰이는 것등은

 

계산하지 말아야 한다.

 

오직 주 예수 그리스도만을 위해 자신을 버리는 것이 진정한 포기이다.

 

가족과 친족을 염려할 때 우리는 이런 변명을 하며 예수님을 떠나려 할 것이다. " 주님 저를 부르셨지만 가족에겐 제가 꼭 있어야 하고, 저도 다른 일이 있어서 더는 갈 수 없습니다." 그러면 주님은 말씀하신다. "그렇다면 너는 나의 제자가 되지 못하리라" (누가복음 14:26-33).

 

진정으로 자신을 버리면

그로 인해 더 앞으로 나아갈 수 있다.

주저하지 말고 진행하라.

 

당신의 포기로 인해 생긴

다른 이들의 아픔과 필요는 하나님이 안아 주시고 치유하신다.

 

하나님께 우리를 온전히 드리지 못한 채

중도에서 멈추지 말아야 한다.
