Suppose God tells you to do something that is an enormous test of your common sense, totally going against it. What will you do? Will you hold back? If you get into the habit of doing something physically, you will do it every time you are tested until you break the habit through sheer determination. And the same is true spiritually. Again and again you will come right up to what Jesus wants, but every time you will turn back a the true point of testing until you are determined to abandon yourself to God in total surrender. Yet we tend to say, "Yes, but - suppose I do obey God in this matter, what about . . .?" Or we say, "Yes, I will obey God if what He asks of me doesn't go against my common sense, but don't ask me to take a step in the dark."

Jesus Christ demands the same unrestrained, adventurous spirit in those who have placed their trust in Him that the natural man exhibits. If a person is ever going to do anything worthwhile, there will be times when he must risk everything by his leap in the dark. In the spiritual realm, Jesus Chrsit demands that you risk everything you hold on to or believe through common sense, and leap by faith into what He says. Once you obey, you will immediately find that what He says is as solidly consistent as common sense.

By the test of common sense, Jesus Christ's statements may seem mad, but when you test them by the trial of faith, your findings will fill your spirit with the awesome fact that they are the very sords of God. Trust completely in God, and when He brings you to a new opportunity of adventure, offering it to you, see that you take it. We act like pagans in a crisis - only one out of an entire crowd is daring enough to invest his faith in the character of God.

가정해 보자! 하나님께서 당신의 상식을 뒤엎는 일을 하시길 원하신다면 당신은 어떻게 하겠는가? 뒤로 물러서겠는가? 만약 당신이 습관대로 행동한다면 그 습관이 깨질 때까지 계속 훈련을 받을 것이다. 영적으로도 마찬가지이다. 반복해서 당신은 예수님께서 원하시는

것을 하려고 매번 시도하겠지만 일정한 한계에 이르면 번번이 포기한 경험이 있을 것이다. "하나님, 그러나 제가 이것을 순종하면 저는 어떻게 되나요?" 상식적으로 납득할 수 있으면 순종하겠습니다. 저를 어둠 속에서 걸으라고 하지는 마세요."

 

예수님께서는 구속받지 않은 담대한 마음을 성도들에게 요구하신다. 어떤 사람이 가치 있는 일을 하려고 한다면 거기엔 반드시 위기를 감수할 무모하게 보이는 도전이 필요하다.

영적으로도 예수님은 당신이 상식을 초월하여 주님 말씀대로 위험을 무릅쓰고 그분 말씀에 따라 뛰어들 것을 요구하신다. 일단 순종하면 당신은 주님의 말씀이 상식보다 훨씬 합당함을 알게 될 것이다.

 

상식적으로 보면 예수님의 말씀은 미친 것처럼 보인다. 하지만 믿음으로 보면 예수님의 말씀이 곧 하나님의 말씀임을 깨닫고 놀라움으로 충만하게 될 것이다.

하나님을 온전히 신뢰하면 그분이 당신을 새로운 모험의 기회로 이끄실 것이고 주저 없이 받아들이면 된다. 결코 놓치지 말라. 우리는 위기에 처하면 마치 믿지 않는 사람처럼 행동한다.

 

하나님의 성품에 그의 믿음을 드리는 다른 사람은 아주 드물지 않는가?
