Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free

A spiritually- minded person will never come to you with the demand- "Believe this and that"; a spiritually- minded person will demand that you align your life with the standards of Jesus. We are not asked to believe the Bible, but to believe the One whom the Bible reveals (see John 5:39-40). We are called to present liberty for the conscience of others, not to bring them liberty for their thoughts and opinions. And if we ourselves are free with the liberty of Christ, others will be brought into that same liberty - the liberty that comes from realizing the absolute control and authority of Jesus Christ.

 

Always measure your life solely by the standards of Jesus. Submit yourself to His yoke, and His alone; and always be careful never to place a yoke on others that is not of Jesus Christ. It takes God a long time to get us to stop thinking that unless everyone sees things exactly as we do, they must be wrong. That is never God's view. There is only one true liberty- the liberty of Jesus at work in our conscience enabling us to do what is right.

 

Don't get impatient with others.

Remember how God dealt with you -

with patience and with gentleness.

But never water down the truth of God.

Let it have its way and never apologize for it.

Jesus said, "Go . . . and make disciples . . ."

(Matthew 28:19),

not,

"Make converts to your own thoughts and opinions."

그리스도께서 우리를 자유롭게 하려고 자유를 주셨으니

그러므로 굳건히 서서 다시는 종의 멍에를 메지 말라.

갈라디아서 5:1

 

영적인 사람은 당신에게 이래라저래라 하지 않는다. 그는 당신의 삶을 예수님의 수준에 맞추라고 말할 것이다. 우리에게 요구되는 것은 성경을 믿는 것이 아니라 성경에 제시하는 하나님을 믿는 것이다. 우리가 부름받은 이유는 다른 이들의 생각과 의견에 자유를 주기 위해서가 아니라 그들의 양심에 자유를 주기 위해서이다. 우리가 그리스도의 자유로 인해 해방되었다면 다른 이들도 그 자유, 예수 그리스도의 절대적인 권위를 인정하는 자유 속으로 이끌림을 당할 것이다.

 

당신의 삶을 예수님의 수준에만 맞추며 살아가라. 오직 예수님께 순종하고 그분의 멍에만 지자. 그리고 다른 이들에게 예수 그리스도의 멍에가 아닌 다른 멍에를 지우는 일이 없도록 주의하도록 하자. 우리와 생각이 다른 사람들은 다 틀렸다는 우리의 사고방식을 하나님이 고치시는 데는 많은 시간이 걸린다. 이는 하나님의 생각이 아니다.

 

다른 사람을 대할 때 참을성을 가져야 한다.

하나님이 어떻게 오래 참으심과 부드러움으로

당신을 대하시는지 기억하자.

그러나

하나님의 진리를 양보하면 안 된다.

하나님의 진리라면 그 길을 가게 강요하고

그에 관한 어떤 변명이나 사과를 하지 말아야 한다.

예수님은 "가서 제자 삼으라"라고 하셨지 "너의 생각으로 사람들을 바뀌게 하라"라고 말씀하시지 않으셨다.
